Read More 19th Judicial District The history of the courts provides a glimpse into Weld County's past. Through the years, courtroom drama has been the source of anger, anxiety, fear and joy. Read More Wonderful Weld County How is this possible in a region that in 1821, Major Stephen H. Long said would never be fit for human habitation and should remain forever the unmolested haunt of the native hunter, bison and jackal? The answer is irrigation. The Section No. 3 Ditch Company, which was incorporated in 1870, is said to have been “the first ditch in the United States built specifically to grow food”. DISCOVER HISTORY In 2011, Weld County celebrated its sesquicentennial (150 th ) anniversary by developing a web site to house the numerous stories and historic information gathered during that celebration. In 2015, Weld County commemorated the 40 th Anniversary of its Home Rule Charter. In 2017, the community marked the 100 th anniversary of the Weld County Courthouse, and this year we will enjoy the centennial celebration of the Weld County Fair. With so much history being gathered and celebrated, we thought it appropriate to develop a new history site to house “our story”. This site will continue to grow as more documents are added.
